India without Taj Mahal

Day 1: Delhi-Ranthambore

We will pick you up from the location of your choice in New Delhi and escort you to the railway station where you will board a luxury train to Sawai Madhpur. The journey will take nearly four and ½ hours.

Arrive in Ranthambore and you will be greeted by our Tour Executive at Sawai Madhopur Railway Station. He will escort you to your hotel and will assist you with check-in. At this time, he will explain your travel plans in detail and hand over your essential travel documents.

Ranthambore National Park is a prime tiger habitat in India. The Park lies strategically between the Vindhyas and the Aravallis; two major hill ranges.

Because the forest is interspersed with ruins of historic monuments, the Ranthambore National park is one of the most picturesque Parks in India. An impressive feature of the Park is Ranthambore Fort, located at the fringes of the Park and providing an excellent bird’s eye view of the entire forest below.

1,334 sq. kilometers of scrub forest and deciduous forest spread over the area with the majority of the wildlife concentrated around three major lakes. The Rajabagh Talao, Padam Talao, and Malik Talao are all man-made lakes that carry water even during the peak of the hottest season.

The diverse forests and flora support a large number of animals including a variety of deer, the sloth bear, the shy caracal, snub-nosed crocodiles, the striped hyena, wild boar, panthers, leopards, and of course the “Big Cat”—the tiger.

Enjoy an evening wildlife safari into the Park.

Later on, watch an informative slide show about the wildlife park with a naturalist.

Stay overnight at the hotel.

Day 2: Ranthambore – Jaipur

Enjoy a wildlife safari into the park in the morning.

After your morning safari, visit the jungle fort at Ranthambore.

Perched atop a steep, high creek, this imposing fort is one of the finest examples of the ancient Hindu concept of vana-durg (a fort protected by a jungle). The Fort’s royal past manifests itself in the ruined walls, pavilions and other splendid monuments.

Check out of your hotel in the morning to embark on the four-hour journey to Jaipur.

After arriving in Jaipur, check into your hotel and relax.

Stay overnight at the hotel.

Day 3: Jaipur

Make a 9 a.m. excursion to the Amber Fort & Palace so that you may ascend to its colossal red entrance on the back of a highly decorated elephant.

Raja Man Singh constructed the Amber Fort that is now regarded as a quintessential example of Rajput architecture as is the elaborate design of the Palace’s interior.

You will see the fort’s splendor with your own eyes when you walk down the hallways and chambers to see the luxurious and adorned ambiance of the palace.

In the afternoon, explore the sights of the fascinating walled city of Jaipur, including the Palace Complex.

While visiting the Palace Complex, see the Jantar Mantar Observatory, a sanctuary of the astronomer king, Maharaja Jai Singh II. Nearby, the intriguing Palace of the Wind, the Hawa Mahal, was built in 1799 to allow ladies from the royal family to view the city and bazaar below in privacy.

Continue to the breathtaking Palace, a royal residence built in a blend of Rajasthani and Mughal architectural styles.

The city’s Palace Complex holds several museums that contain impressive collections of miniature paintings, costumes, and armory. Between the art gallery and the armory, you will find the majestic Diwan-i-Khas—the hall of selective audience.

The Diwan-i-Khas is a marble-paved pavilion that puts on display massive set of silver vessels. The vessels, the world’s largest sterling silver object, used to be filled with royal drinking water from the River Ganga.

The rest of the afternoon is free for relaxing or shopping for Jaipur’s great selections of jewelry, blue pottery, and colorful fabrics.

Stay overnight at the hotel.

Day 4: Jaipur – Jodhpur

In the morning, have an early breakfast and check out of your hotel before driving to the second largest city in Rajasthan—Jodhpur. Your journey will take about four hours. When you arrive at Jodhpur, check into your hotel.

Jodhpur is known as the “Blue City”, and it’s easy to see why—most of the houses in the old city are painted blue! The city is full of many sightseeing excursions that are all going to fascinate you.

In the afternoon, proceed for a half-day sightseeing tour of Jodhpur including Mehrangarh Fort. Situated upon a steep hill, Mehrangarh Fort is one of the largest forts in India. The beauty and grandeur of the fort’s numerous palaces are narrated by hard sand stones and the carefully chiseled Jodhpuri sculptures—each wonderful and unique.

Have an optional lunch at Umaid Bhawan Palace.

Enjoy an evening bazaar walk around the clock tower in the old town.

Stay overnight at your hotel.

Day 5: Jodhpur – Jaisalmer

In the morning, check out of the hotel after an early breakfast before driving down to Jaisalmer. The journey is beautiful, but it will take six hours. When you arrive in Jaisalmer, check into your hotel and relax.

Make an evening visit to Bada Bagh, which literally means “Big Garden” and is the perfect place to watch the sun set with a loved one. It was commissioned by Maharawal Jait Singh in the early 16th century and completed by his son, Lunakaran, after his death.

Stay overnight at your hotel.

Day 6: Jaisalmer

Relish a hearty breakfast in the morning and visit the still-inhabited Jaisalmer Fort. It is nearly a millennia old, and although it sits peacefully on the Trikuta Hill, it has been the scene of many historic battles.

Visit the Amar Sagar, a small and beautiful bejeweled oasis upon a lake. It is adjacent to the 17th century Palace called Amar Singh Palace. Maharawal Akhai Singh built this palace in honor of his esteemed predecessor, Amar Singh.

Next to the palace are pavilions with a long stair leading down to Amar Sagar Lake. Around you are havelis, constructed in the pattern of apartments only adorned with delicately painted murals. You’ll see the most important havelies: Patwon-ki-Haveli, Salim Singh-ki-Haveli, Nathmalji-ki-Haveli.

In the afternoon, have lunch and visit Gadisar Lake. The lake was man-made by the orders of Maharaja Gadsi Singh to be a vast tank for the town’s water supply.

Enjoy an evening camel ride on the Sam Sand Dunes, a Sahara-like desert. When the sun sets, you will feel completely romanticized as you witness the sky turning the sand beneath your feet to gold.

Because the magic of the sand dunes of Rajasthan can be best viewed on a camel safari, it is becoming a major attraction in Jaisalmer. You can really loose yourself in the magnificent stretch of sweeping sands with sparse or no vegetation anywhere to be seen.

After this absorbing day, go back to your hotel and relax yourself.

Stay overnight at your hotel.

Day 7: Jaisalmer—Jodhpur

In the morning, enjoy a breakfast before checking out of your hotel to embark back to Jodhpur. Again, the journey will take about six hours. When you arrive in Jodhpur, check into your hotel and relax.

The evening is free for leisure for you to explore the city on your own.

Stay overnight at your hotel

Day 8: Jodhpur – Ranakpur – Mount Abu

In the morning, have an early breakfast before driving nearly four hours to Ranakpur. Here, you will visit the Ranakpur Jain Temple.

The temple was built during the reign of the liberal and gifted monarch, Rana Kumbha, during the 15th century. There are four subsidiary shrines, twenty-four pillared halls and immense domes supported by over four hundred columns. There are 1,444 columns here, and each is very intricately and individually carved.

You will see a well-crafted carving of nymphs playing the flute in various dance postures—but at 45 feet tall, these are the largest nymphs you will ever see. In the assembly hall, size is also boasted as there are two big bells, each weighing 108 kgs.

After that experience, drive three hours to Mount Abu, a lonely hill station, nestling in picturesque Aravalli hills. Mount Abu is covered by a vast variety of mango, mambo, eucalyptus, date palm, silk, cotton and lime trees.

Arrive at Mount Abu, check into your hotel, and relax.

Stay overnight at your hotel.

Day 9: Mount Abu

In the morning, after breakfast, visit the famous Dilwara Jain Temples. These temples were made between the 11th and 13th centuries. These five marble temples of Dilwara are the sacred pilgrimage site of the Jains. The Jains have built some gorgeous temples at other places, but none come close to these temples in terms of architectural perfection.

Enjoy lunch before proceeding to visit Nakki Lake, a man-made lake encircled by lush hills and the center of all activity in Mount Abu.

In the evening, explore the bazaar up at Sunset Point where you can get a wonderful view of the setting sun.

Stay overnight at your hotel in Mount Abu.

Day 10: Mount Abu – Chittorgarh

In the morning, have an early breakfast before checking out of the hotel and driving down to Chittorgarh. Your journey will take about six hours. Afterwards, check into your hotel and relax.

In the late afternoon, visit Chittorgarh Fort, the insuperable pride of Chittaur. The fort is grand and historical—it was built in the 7th century and sprawls over 700 acres of land. The massive structure and its many gateways boast a dense history of bravery and chivalry.

The tablets and chhatris inside the fort are reminders of Rajput heroism as well as the fine Rajput monuments inside. The fort sits upon a steep hill that has a zigzag path leading you up to its main entrance. You will see two memorials of Jaimal and Patta before you even reach the entrance, illustrating where they fell during the siege of 1568.

After an absorbing day, return to your hotel and rest.

Stay overnight at the hotel.

Day 11: Chittorgarh – Udaipur

In the morning, check out from the hotel after an early breakfast and drive to Udaiput. The journey will take about two and ½ hours. When you arrive at Udaipur, check in to your hotel.

Later, visit the City Palace; the biggest palace complex in India. Four generations of Maharajas have added their own mansions and palaces here such as the Jagdish Temple, Sahelion Ki Bari, which are strewn around colorful bazaars.

At sunset, boats ride romantically over the picturesque Lake Pichhola.

The wonderful day ends with a special, yet optional, dinner at the beautiful Lake Palace.

Stay overnight at your hotel.
